The process of changing your disinfectant

The process of changing your disinfectant

Changing a cleaning or infection prevention product that’s in use in your hospital can be a huge challenge. There are many factors to consider, from the opinions of end users to efficacy, from odours to operations. This typically needs trialling, a business case writing, costings, studies, swabbing, and that’s before the decision is even made. It’s a time-consuming and intimidating task for many. We’ve broken down this task into manageable chunks, many of which we can take responsibility for. A typical timeline looks like this:

1. Identify

We like to work with you to find out what your current practices are, and use our expertise using over a decade of experience and as IPS and AHCP members to give recommendations to improve IPC practices in cleaning. We’ll identify what products are suitable for you, and make recommendations based on research and experience.

2. Research

We’ll arrange a meeting with our sales team so you can learn about the advantages of Peracide over other disinfectants available. We openly discuss the science of how Peracide works, and will provide independent resources to back this up. We will never create scientific-sounding terms to improve the product’s standing. If something seems off about any product, ask us. We are not only experts in Peracide, but a full range of disinfectants. If we can’t answer your question, we will get back to you on it. This research then feeds in to your decision to move forward with a trial, by highlighting your requirements and how we can meet them.

3. Trial

The trial is then held at the trust on the chosen wards. We’ll put everything into place to measure the KPIs you select, and we’ll feed back on this to give you a good perspective on how to move forward.

4. Post-trial decisions

Once your trial is complete hopefully you’ll be in a position to move forward with Peracide. We’ll evaluate the results with you and agree on a plan to move forward. Within this we need to understand your approval requirements, including costings and business case writing. We can do as much as is needed on this, as we feel that by this point we’d have a good understanding of your trust. Once this is completed, we’ll pass it to you to get approval. This approval is then passed on to purchasing in preparation for the roll-out.

5. Roll-out

The roll-out is a staggered process. To begin with, we divide up the trust into segments and pick where to start. The trust will procure the Peracide and bottles needed for these areas, and we’ll come down and train the supervisors and management on Peracide and how to use it. This is then cascaded to every end user according to their shift patterns. When a new segment starts using Peracide, we’ll transfer the stock of your old products throughout the rest of the trust. This helps to minimise waste in the transfer and prevents any interruptions with a new ordering system.

Over our years of experience working with the NHS, we’ve found this to be the most effective route to changing product usage and has successfully implemented Peracide in many trusts. You can rely on us to take on a majority of processes and make the changeover smooth, efficient and effective.
